Cody S. Chen

Hi! I am Cody, a sophomore at Los Gatos High School. My interests include applying computer technologies to adapt to the ever-changing world. This page serves as a selection of some of the projects I have taken on.

I am an adaptive, optimistic, and amiable person, always trying to help my community. Apart from taking on projects, I enjoy listening to music, playing the viola, and shooting archery.

My Projects

Vingo (Virtual Bingo)

After observing COVID-19 ruining the weekly bingo games at the senior center I volunteered at, I created an online multiplayer bingo game.

Ocean Guardian

In order to promote awareness of the impact that trash can have on seas, I created a video game where users had to remove all of the trash from the sea before the fish eats it and dies.

Calarm

With the recent uptick in school shootings, I created an app where students in danger could automatically broadcast their location, immediately allowing the law enforcement and students to make their way to a safe area.

TradeU

To help students obtain school materials affordably, I created TradeU, an app where students can sell and buy second-hand books and materials directly from their classmates, ensuring safety.

My Research

A Smart Sprinkler System to Reduce Lawn Water Usage in Droughts (2022)

Comparing the Efficiency of Various Machine Learning Models for Short Term Load (2023)

Short term energy load forecasting allows for proactive scaling and descaling of energy produced, preventing energy blackouts and energy wasted as excess.

A Novel Multi-Input All-Weather Streetlight to Lower the Carbon Footprint of Illuminating Road Infrastructure (2024)

My Volunteering

Tzu Chi Computer Literacy Program

The Computer Literacy Program strives to teach neurodivergent individuals computer and art skills while creating a safe space for them to socialize. I act as an instructor and a videographer. As an instructor, I create and teach bi-weekly curriculum, and stay accommodating towards the students. As a videographer, I create promotional and informative videos about the program.

Los Gatos Town Youth Commissioner and Library Board Member

As a Los Gatos Town Youth Commissioner, I work to bring youth representation and perspective to ongoing changes and issues in the town of Los Gatos. In 2023, I worked to pass an ordinance regarding the safety and enforcement of E-Bikes. As a Youth Liaison to the Library Board, I similarly bring a youth voice to the operations of the Los Gatos town library.

I love shooting archery , playing viola, and listening to music
